Shared Conversations About What Matters

A book club that teachers form can become as important as targeted Professional Development. If teachers have the interest to choose a book, invest time and effort into reading it, and then meet to discuss it, then they are engaged and the club is a result of self motivation.

Now consider the typical Professional Development.  Someone decides what's important, chooses the topic and delivery and then recruits or just assigns members.  No intrinsic motivation.  Any wonder why so many of staff people complain about inservice days?

There is a hybrid situation that I can imagine. The leadership team comes up with ideas that are relevant and then the staff signs up voluntarily to lead, follow or just attend because it's a choice. Very good.
